10th August - STEVENAGE 1's vs Edmonton

RESULT - Stevenage lost by 6 wickets

Stevenage lined up against a strong Edmonton side, which included their overseas allrounder, with a mixed side comprising 1 first teamer, a few 2's players and five colts. Standin captain David Carr won the toss and chose to bat and with Gary Brown got the game off to a good start with a 98 run opening stand. The stand was ended in the over after drinks with Carr playing on for 57, but Gary took on the responsibility for setting a competitive score with an intelligently compilied 103 not out. He received short lived support at various stages, enabling a total of 207 to be set for Edmonton to chase.

The Edmonton reply began well despite some good opening overs from Kevin Jones and Ian Brown (who finished with 3 wickets). However, Stevenage were heavily dependent on the spin of Ashley Bayes and Gary Brown, who were both very well played particularly by Edmonton's overseas player who made 111. This led to some pretty drastic bowling changes by Carr, who turned to himself for 2 overs, with no success and Russell Hann, with a better result. Hann eventually completed 7 overs for 30+ and picked up the prize scalp of the overseas player. There was also time for one over from 1st team scorer and young bowler Barry Reid, who bowled a tidy line and length. Edmonton eventually winning with half a dozen overs to spare.

10th August - STEVENAGE 2's vs Harwell

RESULT - Stevenage lost by

Despite a Ton by skipper Barry Turner, Stevenage's Academy were well beaten by visitors Hamwell. He received little support on an excellent wicket, as he blasted 109. This was never enough and the 3 wickets taken only added respectability to the final outcome.

Stevenage's Academy XI had an excellent win over visitors Alexandra Park. Barry Turner pick of the bowlers (10 - 1 - 42 - 6) was followed by a sensational opening batting stand of 66 in 8 overs by Mark Sinclair (42) and Gary Brown (78), which led to a good win with 4.5 overs to spare

20th July - STEVENAGE 1's vs Winchmore Hill

RESULT - Stevenage Won by 21 runs

Stevenage recorded their second successive win in the Chess Valley League and move up to 4th in the 8 team league. However, victory was not as easy as would have been expected at the end of a mammoth Stevenage innings of 325 from 45 overs. The game started the way it was to continue; opener David Carr pulling the first ball for six and following it up with two 4s in the same over. He and Russell Hann (50) added 148 for the 1st wicket in 20 overs. With the loss of Hann and two balls later M.Shabir for 0, Rajeev Rajacopal came to the crease and another partnership developed. During this partnership Carr brought his 100 up in 102 balls and Rajacopal played some glorious drives and pulls in his 44. Carr eventually fell for 142 with 4 overs left.

In reply the first over of Winchmore's innings was smashed for 19, M.Shabir the Stevenage bowler that was taken apart. Winchmore's opener D.Kerry (144) kept them in with a shout throughout and all of Stevenage's bowlers, with the exception of Kevin Jones, on his debut for the Sunday 1st XI, (5 overs 1 wicket for 24 runs) and the experienced Joel Hippolyte, who completed his 10 overs for next to nothing with 1 wicket, got some tap. As the game neared its conclusion, Stevenage kept their cool, particularly Barry Turner who bowled (YES THATS RIGHT BOWLED) an important 10 overs in the middle section and Joel Hippolyte who fielding in the deep was not only being peppered with the ball but took a direct hit from some passing pigeons. With the game in the balance Turner, turned to the pace of Rajocopal and the flight and guile of Ashley Bayes to see Stevenage to victory, which they duly did with only 7 runs coming from Bayes' final over when 28 were needed.

20th July - STEVENAGE 2's vs Eastcote

RESULT - Stevenage lost by 7 wickets

Stevenage's Academy X1 were well beaten by a strong Eastcote side. Only 13 year old Laurie Brown (45) batted with ease against a lively home attack. In reply Eastcote batted very powerfully but with Stevenage bowlers Adam Payne and John Mould both showing good control they were made to fight all the way.

RESULT - Stevenage Won

Whoops, overwrote the North Enfield report and lost it. Got to start backing everything up better.

29th June - STEVENAGE 2's vs Radlett

RESULT - Stevenage Lost by 61 runs

The Academy X1 took all the credit in defeat against an adult Radlett side. All the youngsters bowled well with wickets for Kevin Jones, Adam Payne, Jack Mitchell, Ashley Harrow and Gary Brown.

It was in the batting that Stevenage really excelled chasing 241. Brown 106 no was the star but was well supported by Mitchell (30). This was Gary's third 100 this season for Stevenage, but his first against adult bowling.

29th June - Southgate vs STEVENAGE

RESULT - Stevenage Lost by 8 wickets

A very below strength Stevenage side were easily beaten by Southgate. Batting first Stevenage's experienced batters failed to provide the score that would have provided their marginally stronger bowling side with a score worth defending. However, the 137 was never enough and the total reached in about 20 overs.

15th June - STEVENAGE vs Barnet

RESULT - Stevenage Lost by 128 runs

Stevenage came up against a strong Barnet side which included Bombay's First Team Coach. He scored 138 not out and was a league above any of his teammates. Joel Hippolyte and Kevin Fisher were the pick of the seamers, but only Richard Hamilton 10 overs two for 45 maintained any real control in a total of 311 for 6. In reply Stevenage got off to a flyer, despite losing Hann early on. Graeme Duff raced to 29 but nicked behind and a steadier 45 from Turner kept Stevenage in with a shout and a rapid fire 39 from David Carr, ensured that at around the 15 over mark Stevenage were well up with the rate and putting pressure on the Barnet bowlers. However, with the dismisals of Carr and then Turner the innings subsided, with only Andy Burroughes making any impact with 41, before Stevenage plummetted from 164 for 3 with 20 overs left to 183 all out.

15th June - STEVENAGE 2nds vs Knebworth

RESULT - Stevenage Won by 99 runs

Stevenage Academy scored their highest ever total at Knebworth. After being inserted all the visitors batsmen got amongst the runs . Knebworth never got into the chase. Brown took the bowling honours 10 - 2 - 57 - 5. However he was well supported by seven other Academy bowlers as they completed an excellent all round performance.
