Developing Cricket in the Local Community

Since 2003 the amount of voluntary work has been going on "behind the scenes" with partner organisations in order to lay the foundations and ensure the structure is in place for the Club to develop into a sustainable community cricket club for the foreseeable future.

On a local level the Club works with the Stevenage Borough Council Sports Development Officer and the Stevenage Schools Partnership to introduce and develop cricket at grass roots. 2006, in particular, was a busy and challenging year, as the Club was one of only two Clubs in Hertfordshire chosen to take part in the Cricket Foundation "Chance to Shine" programme, which is a national 10-year cricket development programme aimed at generating competitive cricket in State schools.

The schools into which the Club takes cricket coaching are secondary and Junior schools.

The in-school coaching has had the effect of increasing the participation of Stevenage’s children in cricket both in and out of school time and has been reflected in substantial increases in Junior membership with 21 junior schools and 10 senior schools represented at the Club.

At Stevenage we aim to offer young people cricket in an environment where they feel safe, secure and happy, where the members and their families have opportunities to make new friends and broaden their social environment.

Working with partner organisations with the common objectives of offering opportunities and development through participation in sport it is the Club’s aim to ensure that everyone has the chance to experience, enjoy and reach their full potential in cricket.
