The 1st XI lost their final pre-season friendly from a strong position chasing 192.
Having lost the toss, the 1s were in the field on a track that looked like it would be good to bat on, whilst offering enough for the bowlers to keep the match competitive. The team started strongly when Nick Kumpukkal caught their opener Caitlin LBW for 0 but Letchworth managed to score at a strong rate, reaching 99-2 at drinks. At this point, SCC really showed their bowling capabilities, with tight bowling and wickets at regular intervals, Letchworth were never able to kick on and posted a final score of 192-8 off their 45 overs. Bowling shout outs to Satveer Pawar (6-2-15) and Moses Anil (9-2-28).
Unfortunately, Stevenage's batting innings consisted of batsman getting themselves in and getting themselves out, with little support from the middle to lower order. Whilst the wicket became slower as the match went on, with spin changing the game for Letchworth, the team will need to work on their batting resilience ahead of the new season. The positives with the bat were Stanciu, who went off like a rocket, playing classy shots around the ground, scoring 28 at pace before being caught LBW as well as Chapman (24) and Mackay (37) who built a good base before falling to the Letchworth spinners.
A loss to end our pre-season, but with plenty of positives to take into the first league game vs Old Elizabethians on 7th May. Our bowling and fielding looks stronger than ever and the team are united with focus to our season's goal.
