Another all round team performance brings along another 30 points, with everyone contributing to the efforts.
Captain Conor Hayward lost back to back tosses and was asked to bat first on what was a hot day and a good batting track. Every batsman contributed to the run tally, but most noticeably Cameron Mackay (42), Mike Tyler (43) and Scott Davies (40), who built partnerships to lead the team to a strong total of 217-6 off our 50 overs. A particular shout out to Mike Tyler who has started the season in fine form, playing positively and not giving anything to the bowling side.
For a second week running, Stevenage's opening bowlers set the tone for the innings, with Mike Philpotts (9-3-34) and Manohar Kosaraju (8-3-12) taking early wickets and limiting early runs for Hoddesdon. Tyler Burroughs (59) led a recovery and fight back for Hoddesdon with support from Antony Higgs (38) and Matt Young (39), but all-round bowling efforts meant that they were always behind an increasing required run rate, with the 10th wicket falling in the 49th over.
2 weeks in a row that we've been convincing with bat and ball and 2 weeks in a row where we've bowled the opposition out - momentum is building and team confidence is high. The only negative to this result was the injury sustained to Jason Chapman, who fractured a rib diving to stop the ball in the field, resulting in 4-6 weeks out for recovery.
