On a very cloudy morning, Andy won the toss and decided to bowl first. Amey got Datchworth's captain clean bowled, in the second over, on a Graveley pitch that again was difficult to bat on. Datchworth then put on a second wicket partnership of 50, but the introduction of spin brought Stevenage back in the game. Andrew Elder and Zach Vernon reduced the run rate and got 4 wickets between them, to leave Datchworth 94-5. Andy then reintroduced both opening bowlers where Luke Allen picked up 2 wickets and Amey another 1, which at one point, left Datchworth 107-8. Tim Stevens, Datchworth's number 3 batsman was still in and managed to help his team get to the 150 mark. With no recognised 5th bowler, Ian Welch was finishing the innings, and picked up the final 2 wickets, including Stevens, who was eventually caught down leg on 74. Standout bowler by far was Zach, who bowled very good leg spin, returning figures of 8-2-20-3.
Chasing 151 to win, Sam Bates got off to a flyer, hitting 4's all around the ground with a very impressive batting display. He soon raced to his 50 (his first for the club), being supported by Ian who was dealing in singles to get Sam back on strike. Sam and Ian both continued their dominance and reached their 100 partnership in the 16th over. Ian was first out, falling for 24, with Stevenage already having 118 runs on the board. A mini collapse happened when Michael Fisher (0), Sam Bates (72) and Andy Glowdansky (2), all fell within the space of 5 overs, but Zach continued his great first performance for the V's getting 17 runs. Saurabh Bansal hit the winnings runs, which secured the first win of the season, with hopefully some more to follow this year.
