The V's continued their recent good performances with another win at Home. With the threat of rain looming all day, both teams wanted to bowl first, but unfortunately Andy lost the toss, and Stevenage were put in to bat.
This was the first time the V's had batted first this season, so the pressure was on to try and post a score. At 20 overs, Stevenage were 92-4, which was a good score in the conditions, with the aim trying to get to 150. After drinks the game swung massively in the V's favour, with Redbourne losing their Wicketkeeper to injury, resulting in them being a man down. Quick runs from Max Peebles (66), Zach Vernon (29) and Saurabh Bansal (52*), got Stevenage to 255-8. This was Max and Saurabh's first half centuries for Stevenage, who found the gaps well, and put the pressure back on Redbourne with their attacking batting. Jim McDowall's 33 at the top of the order, made this possible for the lower order to come in and attack the weaker bowlers.
Defending 255 and with the risk of rain, the aim was to get the game to 20 overs and keep the run rate as low as possible. Knowing that they would need 128 at 20 overs to win, the plan was to save the boundaries and keep the bowling as tight as possible, so that they had no chance to win the game. Luke Allen and Alan Greenall stuck to this plan brilliantly, with them only getting 47 off their combined 16 overs. Now just relying on the weather, thankfully for the V's it didn't come until the 26th over. After stopping for 20 mins, the captains shook hands on ending the game and this meant that Stevenage won the game, with Redbourne being 90-4. A wicket for each bowler (Luke, Alan, Ben and Amey), was another positive to take away from the game.
This result has moved the V's off the bottom of the table, and up to 7th place.
