We arrived at the Kathleen Warrington School after a great piece of driving cross country by Chris W. The task was to find a dirt track that forever upwards until we came to a halt at a flat very cold plateau with an Astro pitch and some serious new drainage lines across it. Gradually the 6's arrived . The looks of shock on all Stevenage players was not surprising. No facilities, top of a hill and a cold wind plus a North easterly gradually reducing the temperature from 17C to 12C by the end of the game. Apologies lads I lost the toss and we had to field the Wheathampstead innings of 273-3 took nearly 3 hours and we were getting colder and colder as time went on. Pick of the bowlers was Alfie Dewsall with 3-31 from 8 both John Laing and Adam bowled well without luck. If we had had an experienced keeper we would have done a lot better and taken more wickets. A quick turnaround and we were batting and at 0-3 it didn't look very good Fynlay and Beau brought some calm to the carnage .
As we were approaching the 20 overs drinks break the weather started to change first mist and then during the break a deluge. Now having been on many mountain summits in heavy rain I do like to have my Goretex Jacket on . Could have done with it.
The enjoyable part of the 6's is that all the players ,there are a few starting out in this great game, smile and ask where are we next week.
Not a good advert for the day when Chris drove back with the heater on so we could dry out !
