Blazing Hot at Graveley

Winning the toss for the first time this season left me with an easy decision . To have any chance of winning the game we must field first. I opened up with our Two Gentlemen of God- John a Chaplin and Adam a Vicar. They bowled the first ten over between them but had no luck at all going for 31 between them . I switched the bowling and Alfie removed Knebworth's skipper Miles quickly a good catch by Michael . At the other end I brought on Pavan whose first over was a range finder he went for a few but then bowled 7 really good overs ending with 3-36. Alfie continued and bowled a spell of 6 overs initially picking up another wicket. He came back on at the end and finished with 3-40. I came on and had first bowl of season between Alfie , Michael , Myself and Adam their last 10 only went for 29. I have to mention some excellent catches by Michael -2 Furqan and Alfie and a good spell of keeping from Louis. They finished on 177-9.
On to our batting which started steadily and then collapsed both Adam and Michael out to balls that didn't really deserve wickets but the pitch played its part as it was drying rapidly by now in hot sun. One really amusing incident happened when Adam was batting and John umpiring . John kept indicting wides when an erratic youngster was bowling to Adam on for Adam to dispute them . It made me smile and the rest of the fielding side as well.
Furqan who joined this year is improving every game he got 19 which was the top score. We were all out for 80.
A couple of lesson's to be learnt here - we gave away 35 extras 20% of the oppo's total we need to cut that out and batsmen when going out to bat have a look at what the bowlers are doing before trying to smash the ball out of the ground !!
