On a warm sunny day, on a rock hard pitch with tricky patches, uneven outfield and a small boundaries, Stevenage wanted to bat first, but unfortunately the toss was lost and Lilley have decided to BAT first, Our opening part Manohar and Venkatesh have bowled decent spell with Venky taking the first wicket, the momentum was with Lilley scoring at a decent run rate, a bowling change with Suman Iranganti coming into attack and immediately slowed down the run rate from one end and made Lilley to take risks and play in the air shots which have given Stevenage some catching opportunities which were unfortunately not taken and Suman finished wicketless in his 8 ovrs for 11 runs ONLY. Waqar finally taking a crucial wicket of their inform batter with Praveen Garikapati taking the catch successfully at long off have turned the momentum towards Stevenage and the comeback spell from Manohar picking 3 quick wickets, Stevenage were expecting to restrict Lilley to less than 180 in 40 overs. One of Lilley's batters stepped up to the occasion (assisted by a dropped catch) and scored quick 70 Not Out (with more than 30 in last 2 overs) and turned the tide over to Lilley side finishing their innings at 199/6 setting Stevenage a target of 200 in 40 overs.
Stevenage started off innings on a confident note but unfortunately due to very good bowling from their pacer (Qasim) and assistance from tricky pitch wickets kept falling at regular intervals at one end and on the other end....there was MATTHEW CLUCAS...who stood his ground, kept his calm, middled all his shots, determined to play all 40 overs. It did not feel like he was batting on the same pitch as the other batters. At the end of 35th over Stevenage were 168/8 and need another 32 runs in 30 balls, Match is tilting towards Lilley but Stevenage were confident with Matt at the crease and Stevenage continued to get 6 runs per over for next couple of over and after 37 overs Stevenage were 183/8, this is when probably Matt decided to finish the game and in 38th over he scored 13 runs and Stevenage needed only 4 runs in 2 overs and the opponents have given up the game and Stevenage finished their innings at 200/8 in 39.1overs. Matt scored 75 Not Out with contributions from Praveen (18), Manohar (18) and Phani (13) which took Stevenage to victory in this nail biting game.
